Dear Fellow Golfer
At long last, the registration of Golf RSA has been finalised. We are both relieved and excited that the organisation is now officially registered.
The delay in registration, caused mainly by administrative ‘red tape’ but also through some unforeseen challenges, has meant that many of our initiatives have been held back. This letter serves to communicate the steps that are currently underway or will occur very shortly.
Ivanna Samu, Kaleigh Telfer and Cara Gorlei will represent South Africa in a record field of 55 women’s nations at the 2016 World Amateur Team Championships, conducted by the International Golf Federation (IGF), in September.
At the 2014 Championships in Japan, a total of 50 teams competed for the Espirito Santo Trophy, which was won by Australia.
Ivanna Samu has just won the Nomads Gauteng Junior Championships on a great 147.

KILMARNOCK, Scotland (14 July 2016) - As one prestigious Open wrapped up on Wednesday, another started in Scotland and, having flown the flag for South Africa with great pride in the Junior Open Championship this week, two of the country’s brightest prospects were eager to get to Royal Troon to for the first round of The Open Championship.

South Africa’s top ranked Woo-Ju Son from Gauteng and recent Dimension Data Junior Open champion Christo Lamprecht from Southern Cape are rubbing shoulders with the cream of junior golf in the Junior Championship in Scotland.
The biennial curtain-raiser for The Open Championship came under the Royal and Ancient (R&A) umbrella in 2000.
Some very exciting matches out at Ebotse this afternoon with our girls doing extremely well. The lost matches were so close, must have been very exciting to watch these nail biting finishes.

The experience gained from playing college golf in the United States was clear to see as Michaela Fletcher managed her game and a tender back to win Sunday’s 36-hole stroke play seeding round for this week’s Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur at the Ebotse Links.
Fletcher’s total of four under par following respective rounds of 70 earned her a two-stroke victory over last year’s losing finalist and South African number one Ivanna Samu.
TSHWANE, 4 July 2016 – Gauteng junior Ivanna Samu had to dig deep on the back nine at Woodhill Golf Estate and the country’s number two ranked player showed some serious grit to win the Liberty Gauteng North Championship on Monday.
Samu collected her fifth title this season when she edged out Casandra Hall from Ekurhuleni by one shot on seven-over-par 223 with rounds of 76, 70 and 77.
ORKNEY, 27 June 2016 – Gauteng North junior Danielle du Toit maintained her grip on the Nomads SA Girls Championship with as the country’s top ranked junior Woo-Jo Son stepped up her pursuit in Monday’s second round at Orkney Golf Club.
Du Toit overcame a mid-round stumble to return an even-par 72 and will sleep on a five shot lead over Son, who returned a one under 71 to finish at 144.
AICHI-PREFECTURE, Japan (15 June 2016) – The South African Boys and Girls teams made positive headway in Wednesday’s second round at the 2016 TOYOTA Junior Golf World Cup Supported by JAL in Toyota City, Aichi-Prefecture, Japan.
Dylan Naidoo, Dylan Mostert and Herman Loubser all dipped under par at the Ishino Course at Chukyo Golf Club to combine for a six-under-par 207 that moved South Africa into a tie for fourth with Sweden at nine under 417.
AICHI-PREFECTURE, Japan (13 June 2016) – The South African Boys team tied for sixth and the SA Girls grabbed a share of seventh in the first round of the 2016 TOYOTA Junior Golf World Cup Supported by JAL in Toyota City, Aichi-Prefecture, Japan on Tuesday.
Gauteng’s Ivanna Samu pushed the boat out for South Africa in the Girls Competition.

The championship will be contested at the Chukyo Golf Club’s Ishino Course in Aichi-Prefecture, Japan between 87 of the world’s best junior golfers from 14-17 June.
Congratulations to Tash Carlsson on winning the Bryanston Country Club ladies shampionships today. Tash had a five shot lead after the first round yesterday and managed to hang onto the lead today. She finished on +1 for the 36 holes, great golf in anyone's book. Kaleigh Telfer was runner up on +6 and Shawnelle De Lange was third on +8
Congratulations to 15 year old Woo-Ju Son on winning the CCJ Club Champs on a brilliant level par 144 after carding rounds of 74 on Rocklands and 70 on Woodmead. 12 year old Samantha Whateley was runner up. Huge congratulations are in order as news was received today that WGSA have selected Woo-Ju Son to play in the R&A British junior open to be played from the 11-13 July in Kilmarnoch (Barassie) Golf Club. She will be accompanied by two boys and a manager from SAGA. Ladies Golf Gauteng would like to wish her the best of luck for this very prestigious tournament.
Congratulations to Ivanna Samu on winning the Free State Championships this weekend. Kaleigh Telfer was third, Ethel Ruthenberg and Woo-Ju Son finished tied fourth.
Unfortunately many of our squad could not compete as they were attending a B squad training camp at HPC in Pretoria which had been arranged by WGSA.

Liezel Heyns of Glendower Golf club beat Mariana Meyer of Eagle Canyon 4/3 this afternoon in the B Division match play. Liezel also won the stroke play championships by 2 shots from Mariana Meyer. Liezel's road to the finals, she had a bye for the first round, she beat Adele Fouche this morning 3/2 and then beat Mariana this afternoon to take the title. Mariana had a walkover the first round as her opponent never pitched up, she beat Sinead Rice 2up in the second round.
Zethu Myeki of Westbank Golf Club in East London won our A Division match play when she beat Chiara Contamathios 2/1. Zethu lead the whole match and at one stage Chiara was four down but came back fighting and managed to claw back two holes in succession. She was two down going into the 17th which they halved and this was enough for Zethu to take the prestigious title. Well done to Zethu, great golf.
The President of Ladies Golf Gauteng, Antoinette Le Roes, announced the teams to represent Gauteng in the 72 Holes Teams Championships to be held from the 22nd to 25th May 2016 at Middelberg Golf Club.

B Team:- Chiara Contomathios, Eleonora Galletti and Kajal Mistry
C Team:- Shawnelle de Lange, Symone Henriques and Kaiyuree Moodley
The match play rounds started this morning, unfortunately three girls either didn't arrive for their matches or withfrew late last night, leaving three matches with walkovers this morning, which is most unfortunate.
