Our Gauteng A Division champs were played over two days at RJ&K with the players playing 36 holes yesterday and 18 holes today. They played the West coast on Sunday morning and the East course on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. The tournament was always going to be fiercely contested with South Africa's top golfers in contention and they certainly didn't dissappoint.
Lindi Coetzee, Caitlyn Macnab and Kiera Floyd all finished tied on 215 so it was off down the 18th for a sudden death playoff. Lindi sealed the deal on the first playoff hole with a birdie on the par five. She put her drive in the bunker, her second in the greenside bunker, came out with her thrid but only just on the green and then slotted her putt for the win. Caitlyn and Kiera bothed finished with pars but the excitement wasn't over yet. Caitlyn and Kiera had to play the 18th once more to decide the Junior Champion. They both put their second shots in the greenside bunker and both managed to up and down for birdies. It was off back to the 18th tee box for the third time, this time both put their seconds in the left greenside bunker with Kiera having a horrible down hill lie. Kiera only just got her ball out and Caitlyn came out a bit too strong, leaving them both with some work to do. Caitlyn left her fourth shot short whilst Kiera hit hers very long and then missed the par putt coming back whilst Caitlyn slotted hers for the win. A very exciting day with some fantastic golf played by the young ladies.
Caitlyn was crowned Junior Champion and runner up to the Champion on a count out from Kiera. Kiera was runner up in the Junior championships and finished in third place in the Championships. Cara Ford won the 54 holes nett on 217 with Woo-Ju Son runner up on 219.
The 54 holes nett in the Championships was won by Larissa Du Preez on 214 with Lenanda Van der Watt being runner up on 216, winning the count out from Carmen Taljaard.
